Do What is Good and Live (Ezekiel 18:21-28/Psalm 130/Matthew 5:20-26)

"If a wicked man turns away from all his sins which he has committed and keeps all my statues and does what is lawful and right, he shall surely live;he shall not die" Ezekiel 18:21

God is not wicked that He will desire the death of a sinner, instead, he is always reaching out to the one who has fallen into sin to come out of his or her sinful way of life and become a new person in Christ.

This simply shows us that God is holy and He desires that we who follow Him as His disciples must be holy also. If we must do the things that will be acceptable before the Lord it must be good things and not evil.

Sin puts us in a position as enemies of Christ and as such we will not be able to have life in Him except we repent of our sins and turn away from our evil ways.

If we intend to live for Christ, we must do good always. We must strive to live a righteous life, because the way of the Lord is just. We must do good not to please anyone or seek favour, but to glorify the Lord. When we do what we are supposed to do and in a manner that will bring glory to the name of the Lord, God will be happy and He will bless us.

We see how Jesus shows us in the gospel reading how we should live our lives. Our righteousness must exceed that of the Pharisees. This means that in obeying the law we must go beyond the letter to finding out the spirit of the law then keeping it.

Thou shall not kill involves something much more than simply killing someone. It takes into consideration, bitterness, anger, humiliation and insults e.t.c Therefore, if one truly seeks after righteousness, he or she must strive not to do what will hurt another person in words or deeds.

The Lord will happy that our differences and quarrels are resolved before we approach the altar to give thanks and offer sacrifices. When this is not the case, we are actually giving room for the evil one to take control of our lives.

The Lord loves good and abhors evil. we must also love good and detest evil if we intend to live and please Him. When we sin, we die, but when we do good, we live. We will make the choice of what we want and if we choose life, then we must do good always and stay away from evil. We must let go of our sinful past and accept the new life we have in Christ

Reconciliation is very important if we must make heaven at the last day. Reconcile with God and reconcile with your Neighbour and you will be ready to do the good that will merit you eternal life in His kingdom.

Let Us Pray: Lord Jesus Christ, help me to turn away from my evil ways so that I will have life in you  May I desire good always more than evil and with your help may I reconcile with my neighbours. Amen
