Persecution of the Righteous One (Wis.2:1,12-22/Psalm 34/John 7:1-2,10,25-30)

Persecution has to do with treating someone cruelly because they hold a different view from ours or because they tend to live a better life than we do.

This was the constant experience that Jesus had with the Jews. They refused to accept the truth that He is the Son of God and as such they saw him as one who has come to lead their people astray.

There was constant friction between Jesus and the Jews because of their ignorance and refusal to accept Him for who He is.

the first reading of today from the book of wisdom highlights what happens when people refuse to accept the truth and choose to remain in ignorance. It will make them to want to persecute and destroy anyone who tries to bring them out of their evil ways.

Jesus was persecuted because He was always showing the people a way to life and they were not happy with Him. They did all within their power to make sure that they destroyed Him without knowing that He was on a mission to save them.

We must prepare our minds everyday as Jesus did, because our following Jesus Christ will not be without Persecution and cross which we must endure if we intend to gain  eternal life.

When we make the choice to live in the light we will definitely have people who will not be happy of our lifestyle because it will challenge them always. However, we must not and never give up because of persecution, instead, we should always stand on the side of truth and continue to represent Jesus Christ as He represented the Father and came to show us the way to the Father.

Our strength to overcome persecution and stay strong when people try to do is bad when we do them good will definitely come from Jesus who has experienced similar treatment and became victorious. There is no need to give up, instead, we should keep speaking the truth and hold unto our faith till the end.

Jesus is the righteous one and He was persecuted and today we have Him by our side and He will give us the strength and grace to overcome our persecutions in life too

Let Us Pray: Lord Jesus Christ, help me to hold unto my faith in you till the end. May the persecution I face not break me, but let me stay strong and continue to win souls for you. Amen.
