Seek God Above Other Things Of This Life (Jonah 3:1-10/Psalm 51/Luke 11:29-32)

The first reading of this day presents us with the story of Jonah and the people of Nineveh. Jonah tried to flee from God so that he will not go to deliver the message of repentance to the people of Nineveh, but When he found himself by the shore of Nineveh, he reluctantly proclaimed the message given to him.

It must have been surprising to him, because the entire nation both man and beast alike turned away from their evil ways and repented. They chose God above the material things and pleasures of this life that have turned their hearts away from God.

When the people heard God's voice through Jonah they made amends and reconciled with God and found salvation. They drifted away from God and went after pleasure and created things, but when they were offered a chance for repentance they did not hesitate to take it because it was for their own good.

In the gospel reading we see Jesus telling the people who were seeking for signs and wonders that none of those will be given them, except that of Jonah. He was saying this to make the people re-order their priority and seek God above other things of this life.

We do not need to seek anyother thing in this life more than God himself, because God alone is enough for us. The created things are lesser and inferior to God who created them  and if we intend to be happy in this life we must hold unto God and seek Him always.

Jesus is something greater than Jonah and He is something greater than Solomon.  Therefore, we must leave everyother thing and go after Him. we must turn away from our evil ways and let the Word of God we hear everyday make impact in our lives so that it will move us to repentance.

Anyother thing we choose above God will bring us sorrow and not Joy. God is the only one who can give us satisfaction in life and He we must submit to. Jesus is greater than signs and wonders and if we choose Him we have chosen the greatest and the best.

Let Us Pray: Lord Jesus Christ, give us grace to seek you above everyother thing else and may your words we hear everyday move us to repentance always. Amen.
