In Jesus We Have Everything We Need (Gen.22:1-18/Ps.116/Rom.8:31-34/Mark 9:2-10)


"This is my beloved Son, listen to Him. And suddenly looking around they no longer saw anyone with them but Jesus only" Mark 9:7-8

The transfiguration of Jesus on the mountain which we read about in the gospel reading of today is a manifestation of Jesus' glory as the Son of God. He changed before the apostles Peter, James and John and Peter after seeing God's glory manifest did not want to go back to the world anymore, instead he wanted to stay with Jesus for ever because he knew that only Jesus is enough for Him.

The voice of the Father which spoke from the cloud at the transfiguration confirmed that Jesus is the beloved Son and we must listen to Him, Follow Him and do what He wants us to do always.

The Father has given us His Son who came and died for our sins and redeemed us. He did not spare Him, but gave Him as a lamb of sacrifice.

This was prefigured in the first reading where Abraham in obedience to God's command went to offer his son Isaac to the Lord, however, the Lord seeing the genuiness his faith did not let him to lay a finger on Isaac, instead He provided a lamb that was slaughtered in place of Isaac.

Jesus is the lamb of sacrifice we pleads on our behalf before the Father always. When He is for us as Saint Paul noted in the second reading, no one can be against us.

Jesus is the Messiah and His mission is to save us from the dominion of darkness and bring us into the kingdom of light, therefore, we must hold unto Him in faith like Abraham held unto God and He was blessed. Everyother thing we seek and hold unto more than Jesus Himself will disappoint us, but Jesus will never fail us if we put our trust in Him.

We hold unto Jesus and let go of other things of this life, because Him alone is enough for us. The things of this life are passing away but Jesus lives forever. If we stick with Him we will never be disappointed because He will help us and we shall overcome the challenges of life. Jesus is all that we need and He who has him has everything.  Raise your faith level and the glory of the Lord will be made manifest in your life again.

Let Us Pray: Lord Jesus Christ, help me to put my trust in you and may your glory rest upon me so that I will overcome the turbulence of this life. Amen

In the Gospel reading of today, we read the evangelist listing some persons to whom Jesus had  appeared to after his ressurection. We hear Jesus chastise his apostles for not believing even by the testimonies of those who had seen Him. Now in the Gospel reading we hear the two apostles refusing to stop witnessing. They too had experienced the resurrected Christ and his first gift of the Holy Spirit and now have become witnesses themselves. Today, the reading brings before our minds the call to believe and to be witnesses of the resurrection. It is not proper that those who are witnesses of the living Christ, in he Church, the sacraments and  the word of God alive in our hearts, refuse to bear witness to the risen Jesus by the way we live ourlives. It is very sad that many times ourlives show that we do not believe Jesus is alive and is watching our every action and thought. Let The Resurrection Witnessing Begin (Acts 10:34,37-43/Ps.118/Col.3:1-4/Jn.20:1-9)

"In those days: Peter opened his mouth and said, You know the word which was proclaimed throughout all Judea, beginning from Galilee after Baptism which John preached: how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power and he went about doing good and healing all that were possessed by the devil,  for God was with Him" Acts 10:34,37-38 Today, is the Sunday of the Resurrection and there is joy everywhere, because Jesus is risen and was not held bound by the force of the grave and death. We have been waiting for this day as we practiced our lenten observances and today Joy has taken over the atmosphere because He who was killed and buried has risen as He said He will do. we see that by the power of the resurrection the apostles became witnesses to the events about the life of Christ. The Dry Bones shall Rise again (Ezekiel 37)

The story of the valley of dry bones in the book of Ezekiel is one that inspires any serious christian. The dry bone represents everything that is dead in us which needs restoration from the Lord. Sometimes in life,  our faith and spirituality get so dry and arid that we become disconnected from the things that concern and involve God. Sometimes also as a result of the challenges we face in health, business, work, family, marriage and so on, we feel so empty and dry that we will be seen as a working corpse or a dead. This season of advent is a season when we open ourselves to the mercy of Jesus so that he can heal us of our dryness and restore us to life like the dry bones were restored in this book of Ezekiel.
