Learn From The Generousity Of Christ (2 Corinthians 8:1-9/Ps.146/Matt. 5:43-48)


Saint Paul in the first reading of this morning enjoins us to be generous just as Christ was generous. Though He was rich, yet for our sake He became poor, so that by his poverty you might become rich. The example of Christ in generousity extends to everything He did including His dying on the cross, the love and care He gave to those who came to Him, the forgiveness and mercy He showed to sinners e.t.c.

It is this wonderful attidude of our Lord Jesus Christ that we are going to emulate as children of God so that we will be like our Father who is in heaven. It is His generousity that made Him offer His life on the cross for our salvation and if we are going to be His true disciples we must be ready to offer ourselves and sacrifice our life for the salvation of others who are yet to come to know Him.

To love ones enemy and to pray for those who persecute us will seem to be a difficult thing to do, but that is the way of perfection. It will be easier to love those who love us and hate those who hate us, but Jesus is telling us thst if we are to be perfect like the Father we must be generous towards all and will love all. Our perfection will come when we go beyond the ordinary to strive on a daily basis do those things that will make us to be like our Lord Jesus Christ Whom we are following.

For Christ to come to the earth, take our human nature and became obedient to the Father even unto death He has shown us what it means to be generous. He died for all and His love is for all both the good, the not so good and the bad.

We can only win back our enemies and those who persecute us not by plotting to pay them back with their own coin of revenge, hatred, envy and retaliation, but by loving them and showing them the face of God. This is truly what it means to be generous. You will be willing and ready to go the extra mile to show them love even when it will be painful for you to do it.

The Macedonian community that Paul was writing to were very good in giving that he commended their generousity. They suffered a lot of affliction but thst did not stop them from giving freely even beyond their means. They were generous to God first by giving themselves to Him and to the people by using what they have to support the work of the saints.

Jesus exchanged our poverty with His riches and made us share in His glory. This should be our daily focus, that we will be willing and ready to help others to see God's light, enjoy God's mercy and love, feel His goodness and glory e.t.c This will be our duty and the more we are able to do it the better it will be for us and for others who are yet to know Christ.

There is no need for us to hoard God's blessings which He has given to us, we must use it everyday to bring glory to His name. We must be generous to all with our time, treasure, talent, resources, knowledge e.t.c. We must make sacrifices that will be for the good of all, both those who love us those who persecute us. Our generousity must be a perfect generousity when it is given in a manner that will be pleasing to God. We have a lot to learn from our Lord Jesus Christ and it will be for our own good that we begin now to wirk on ourselves to be like Him always in being generous to all both the good and bad. In the poverty of Christ we have become rich and we must use our richness to serve God and humanity.

Let Us Pray: Lord Jesus, help me to be generous like you at all times. May I be ready to show people what true love is by offering myself as a sacrifice of burnt offering for others to be happy and free.

God is faithful (2 TIMOTHY 2:1-13)

One thing that gives me the confidence and assurance to continue to follow God and hold unto him is that He is ever faithful. On this beautiful sunday morning I remind myself once again of the faithfulness of God. To be faithful means to be trust worthy. It means that the God I serve is not a joker, a cheat or an unserious person. If He says a word, He will make it come to pass. In my relationship with God I can boldly accuse myself as the faithless and unfaithful one. I easily leave God to pursue my personal desires which may not be in line with what God wishes for me.
