A Call To Repentance (Isaiah 58:9-14/Psalm 86/Luke 5:27-32)

"At that time: Jesus saw a tax collector, named Levi, sitting at the tax office and he said to him, Follow me. And He left everything,  and rose and followed him" Luke 5:27-28

This season of lent is characterised by the call to repentance. Everything we do is geared towards returning back to the Lord, turning away from our sinfulness and accepting the new life that God has offered us in Christ.

Levi was a tax collector, and his integrity was already smeared in the mud. He was seen by the people as a sinner in need of help and when Jesus offered that help he did not waste anytime to accept the offer and let go of his old way of life.

Levi was a courageous man. It must have taken him a lot to abandon his old life and follow Jesus in a new one. Despite the pressures of his  'bad' public image, he did not shy from following Jesus. This makes Levi a big model for us because everyone has some old way of life which he has to courageously abandon.

Today Levi has moved from the image of a public sinner to that of a saint. Hence in the life of Levi we see the power of God's grace to transform our old ways into saintly ways. And this is good news for this season of Lent where we are called to repentance. Let Us heed to the call to repentance which exist deep in our hearts. Remember always that our God awaits us eagerly and wishes to welcome us.

Let Us Pray: Lord Jesus Christ, today I receive your call to repentance with great joy knowing that with the help of your grace I can live my old life behind and embrace the new one which you offer me every day.
