Following God The Jesus Way (James 4:2-10/Ps.55/Mark 9:30-37)

Taking a look at the readings of today we see that it is an instruction in the best way to follow God and fulfil His will. St. James in the first reading highlights the need for us to be closer to God than to be closer to the world, because the deeper we become friends with the world and the things it contains, the more disconnected we are with God. Friendship with the world is enmity with God for when we are friends with the world we loose focus of who God is and we begin to do things in our own way. To be a friend with the world means that we are more concerned with satisfying our selfish ambition and desire than pleasing God.

To follow God the Jesus way means that we must disconnect ourselves from every worldly attachment and connect ourselves firmly and stronger in God. We must submit ourselves to God and resist the devil. We must draw near to God everyday and cleanse ourselves of every impurity. We must use every opportunity we have to please God and do His will. It means that we must let God lead us in every of our endeavour. God must come first before anyother thing else.

To follow God the Jesus way also involves being humble and ready to use our gifts for the service of the others. Jesus told His disciples in the gospel, that if anyone will be first the person must be the last of all and servant of all. The Jesus way is that power and authority is used well when it is used for service and not for domination. A person who wants to be like Christ and please God at all times must be willing to bring himself low and use the authority at his disposal to serve his brothers and sisters without being selfish.

There is still a lot of work for us to do before we will begin to follow God the Jesus way. We must be ready and willing to let go of our attachment to worldly things and desire spiritual things more. We must make it a priority to put God first and in the same way humble ourselves to serve others. We must listen to Jesus daily and allow Him lead us and guide us. We should not quarrel with others and fight when we do not receive what we have prayed for, because we prayed wrongly. We must always strive to pray in the manner that will be pleasing to God and in that way we will be able to receive answers from God. We must follow God the Jesus way if truly we want to enjoy the blessings of eternal life at the end of time.

Let us Pray: Heavenly Father, give me the grace to follow you in the way that you Son our Lord Jesus has set out for me and may I be humble to serve others. Amen.
